01

Prepare both platforms

Configure the cluster, region, network access and roles in MongoDB Atlas. In watsonx.ai, enable the required model, API access and the appropriate SDK.

  • Choose a region close to users
  • Apply least-privilege access
  • Manage secrets securely
02

Establish a clear architecture

The frontend communicates with a dedicated backend. That backend loads context from Atlas, sends controlled requests to the LLM and writes back only the intended results. Database and model remain decoupled.

03

Implement a deliberate data flow

Relevant data is retrieved from Atlas and prepared as bounded context for the model. Responses are validated, processed and—where the use case requires it—persisted.

  • Send context rather than raw data
  • Validate inputs and outputs
  • Handle failure modes explicitly
04

Test, observe and evolve

After local integration and security tests, the application can be deployed at scale. Monitoring database performance, model calls, quality and cost keeps operations manageable; regular updates keep the solution secure.
